Before you decide.
The questions investigators and training coordinators ask most. Anything else, ask the Compass Guide or email joseph@ascjoe.com.
The library
What is The Practitioner's Compass?
An online video training library for investigators from Advanced Strategic Communications, taught by Joseph R. Auriemma, Jr. Five curricula cover investigative interviewing, report writing, and credibility assessment for both sectors, and search warrants and search and seizure for law enforcement. See every lesson.
Who is it for?
Police and public agencies, and the corporate, HR, Title IX, insurance SIU, and private investigators who interview and write for a living. Warrant Prep is a law enforcement curriculum. Search & Seizure is built mainly for law enforcement, with lessons and scenarios for corporate and private investigators. Interview Prep, Report Prep, and Credibility Assessment serve both sectors.
How long are the lessons?
Lessons range from about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the subject. Each released lesson shows its actual length.
How are lessons released?
In teaching order within each curriculum. The curriculum pages list every planned lesson with its release status, so you always know what is next.
Are there free samples?
Yes. Four sample lessons, from four of the curricula, are released with the first videos. They can be watched on the free page without an account.
Who teaches it?
Joseph R. Auriemma, Jr.: 24 years with the New York State Police, retired as a Senior Investigator, and the affiant on more than 1,500 search warrant applications and court orders. He served as lead instructor at the New York State Police Academy for Investigative Interviewing, Crisis Negotiation, and both the Basic and Advanced Search Warrant courses, and is the author of The Affiant’s Standard.
Membership
When can I join?
Membership opens with the first videos. Nothing can be purchased today. Leave your email on the Join page and you will hear when it opens.
What does it cost?
$15 a month or $125 a year, which is $55 less than paying monthly. A founding member offer is $80 for the first annual term, then $125 a year; whether it is still available is confirmed at checkout. Prices exclude any applicable tax.
Can I watch on my phone?
Yes, in your phone’s browser. You can add the site to your home screen so it opens full screen with its own icon. It is a website, not an app store app, and there is no offline viewing.
How do I sign in?
With a link sent to your email address. There is no password. Sign in here.
Can I cancel?
Anytime, from the Account page or by emailing joseph@ascjoe.com. Memberships renew automatically until cancelled, and access continues to the end of the period you paid for.
Do you offer refunds?
Annual plans can be refunded within 14 days of the first payment. Monthly plans are not refunded for a partial month; cancelling stops future charges. For anything else, email joseph@ascjoe.com.
Using what you learn
Is this legal advice?
No. It is training. It does not replace your agency’s policy, your organization’s procedures, or the guidance of your prosecutor or legal adviser, and it cannot tell you whether a specific search, warrant, or finding is lawful.
Does it apply in my state?
Yes. Warrant Prep and Search & Seizure are built for investigators in all 50 states. The national lessons teach the federal floor and the working discipline that apply everywhere, and flag the points where state law differs. Each state's own statutes, court rules, and controlling decisions are taught in that state's own State Law Companion module. Confirm the rules in your own jurisdiction. Interviewing, report writing, and credibility assessment are not tied to one state.
Will I get a certificate or training credit?
Yes. Each curriculum awards a certificate of completion when you finish every lesson in its national core (State Law Companion modules are not required). It is a PDF with a verification code anyone can check online. Whether a certificate counts toward POST, in-service, continuing-education, or recertification credit is decided by your agency, licensing board, or professional body, not by ASC, so no credit is promised.
Teams and the Guide
Can my agency or organization buy seats?
Yes. Team licenses cover up to 10, 30, or 75 named seats at $1,000, $2,500, or $5,000 a year, with custom quotes above 75. A team license also allows screening lessons to your own personnel in roll-call, in-service, or academy settings. See the agencies page.
What is the Compass Guide?
An AI training guide built into the site. Tell it what you are preparing to do and it lays out the lessons that fit, in order. It is not Joe, it does not give legal advice, and it should never be given case details. Conversations are kept for 12 months, then deleted. See the privacy policy.
How do I reach a person?
Email joseph@ascjoe.com. Joe answers personally.
Planned at $15 a month or $125 a year. Leave your email and you will hear when it opens.
