Privacy Policy

What we collect, and why.

This policy covers The Practitioner’s Compass at ascjoe.com, a video training library operated by Advanced Strategic Communications, LLC (“ASC”). ASC is a one-person practice. We collect what we need to run your membership and improve the library. We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising.

Effective October 24, 2026. The main ASC website has its own privacy policy.

What we collect

Your email, your membership and billing status, the lessons you watch, and what you ask the Compass Guide.

Why

To sign you in, give you access, remember where you left off, suggest lessons, and answer support requests.

Your control

Ask what we hold, correct it, export it, or delete it. Unsubscribe from email anytime.

What we collect

  • Account. Your email address, and your name if you add it. Sign-in uses a single-use email link; there is no password.
  • Membership and billing. Your plan, status, renewal date, and invoices. Stripe holds your card details; we never see the full card number.
  • Learning activity. Which lessons you start and finish and how far you watched, so the library can pick up where you left off, and, if you are signed in, your answers and scores on lesson questions.
  • Certificates. If you earn a certificate of completion, the name you entered, the curriculum, the date, and a verification code.
  • Compass Guide conversations. What you type to the Guide, its answers, the page you asked from, and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address used only to limit how many messages one visitor can send.
  • Notify list. If you leave your email to hear when membership opens, your email is added to ASC’s mailing list, which includes The Debrief, ASC’s monthly email.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs, and aggregate traffic data from Google Analytics on the public home page.

Please do not enter case details, names of people in your cases, passwords, or payment information in the Guide. It does not need them, and we do not want them.

How we use it

  • To sign you in and give you access to the lessons your membership includes.
  • To bill your membership, send renewal reminders and receipts, and handle cancellations and refunds.
  • To email members when new lessons are released, unless you turn that off on your Account page or with the link in the email.
  • To save your progress and to let the Compass Guide suggest what to watch next. For signed-in members the Guide uses your lesson progress only, never billing or other account records.
  • To improve the library and the Guide. Joe reviews Guide conversations to find what members need and where answers fall short.
  • To answer support requests, keep the service secure, and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

Cookies and browser storage

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in. They are required for the member area to work.
  • Google Analytics cookies are set on the public home page only, to count visits in aggregate. You can block them in your browser or with Google’s opt-out add-on without affecting the site.
  • The Compass Guide keeps the current conversation in your browser tab so it survives a page change. It is cleared when you close the tab.

The services that run the site

These providers process data on ASC’s behalf, each under its own privacy terms, and receive only what they need to do their job.

Google AnalyticsHome page traffic

Who else sees your information

  • The service providers listed above, only as needed to run the service.
  • Your organization, if it purchased your seat: its license administrator can see your name and email, whether you have signed in, how many lessons you have completed, when you were last active, and any certificates you have earned. We do not share your Guide conversations with it.
  • Anyone you give a certificate code to can confirm it at www.ascjoe.com/verify, which shows the name, curriculum, lesson count, and date on the certificate, and nothing else.
  • Legal requirements, if we must disclose information by law, subpoena, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ASC or others.
  • A business transfer, if the practice is ever sold or merged, in which case the successor is bound by this policy.

How long we keep it

  • Account and progress: while your account exists. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove it and your progress.
  • Compass Guide conversations: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Billing records: as long as tax and accounting rules require.
  • Notify list: until you unsubscribe.

We use reasonable safeguards and reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as we can.

Your choices

  • Access and export. Ask what we hold about you and get a copy.
  • Correction and deletion. Ask us to fix or delete it, subject to records we must keep.
  • Email. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe, and new-lesson emails can be turned off on your Account page or from the email itself. Account and billing emails continue while you are a member.
  • Cancel. Cancel your membership anytime from the Account page.

Email joseph@ascjoe.com for any of these. Depending on where you live, laws such as the CCPA or GDPR may give you additional rights; we extend these choices to everyone and work in good faith on any statutory request.

Professionals only, and changes

The Practitioner’s Compass is professional training for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors.

We will post changes on this page with a new effective date, and email members before a change that materially affects them takes effect.
